In the Rochester region:

·        2,474 people are living with HIV/AIDS

·        In Monroe County, 45% of new HIV infections were in young people under 25 years of age


In New York State:

·        Approximately 126,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS.

·        Up to 4,600 New Yorkers will become infected with HIV this year.

·        While the majority of HIV diagnoses occur before age 40, 75 percent of persons living with HIV/AIDS are age 40 or older.

In the United States:

·        Every 9 ½ minutes, someone is infected with HIV

·        An estimated 56,300 people will become infected with HIV this year.

·        An estimated 1 in 4 individuals that have HIV don’t know it.

·        1.1 million Americans are living with HIV

In the World:

·        According to new data from the United Nations 2009 Global AIDS epidemic update, new HIV infections have been reduced by 17% over the past eight years.

·        Since the beginning of the epidemic, almost 60 million people have been infected with HIV and 25 million people have died of HIV-related causes.

·        Approximately 33 million people on our planet are living with HIV  

·        Each year there are an estimated 2.7 million new infections and 2 million AIDS-related deaths.

·        2.1 million children under 15 are living with HIV.
